Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Electrum: Review

I treated myself to a couple of things from the Illamasqua sale (which is really good by the way and can be found here). One of the products that I bought was a Liquid Metal in the colour Electrum which is a yellowy gold; these retail for in £17.50 the UK. Illamasqua describe this product as: "A rich and highly pigmented metallic cream that grabs full attention wherever it's applied. Smooth onto eyes, face and body with fingers or a brush and prepare to take the spotlight." I don't own any products like this, so I was very intruiged to try it out.

The packaging

This comes in a very pretty glass pot with a black plastic lid which has the Illamasqua logo on it. It's surprisingly big and looks lovely on my dressing table. You open it by popping the lid off, which I find annoying, I wish it opened up like a MAC eyeshadow, for example, I think that would be more convenient.

The Product

What a versatile product! It can be used as a cream eyeshadow, an eyeliner, an accent on the tearduct or on the lips, or a highlighter. It is also very buildable, so you can layer the product and get a really dramatic look.

The texture of this product really lives up to the name, it literally melts at the touch, so the application is seamless. I don't like this so much as an eyeshadow, though as I found that it creased like mad! I have never used a cream eyeshadow, so they may just not suit me, so I can't say that this is a bad product. I would like to find a way to make this work for me, as it's such a pretty colour.

I'm not really too upset that it doesn't suit me as an eyeshadow, because it makes a lovely highlighter. It blends so easily, so can be sheered down really well. I'd say this is my favourite way of using this product.

Here you can see it used as a liner and also as a highlight on the browbone.

The Verdict

In spite of the fact it doesn't suit me as an eyeshadow, I quite like this: it's like 5 products in one and it is great for playing around with. I will have to experiment with some primers to see if I can stop it from creasing.

  1. That is a really pretty color. I just got into cream shadows this year. I really love the Maybelline Tattoo 24 hour cream shadows. I think I have every color. Great Price. I also like the MAC paint pot a bit. I normally don't wear a primer unless the cream color is light and I need it to pop more. I find the best way to prevent my eyes from creasing is to make sure they are moisturized. Hope this helps.

  2. That's interesting, I never thought of moisturising them and I don't use eye cream at the moment, so that may be why. The Maybelline ones are gorgeous, how do they perform?
