MAC Dollymix Blush

I've been wanting to expand my blush collection for a while. I'm about to run out of Benefit Coralista and my two cream blushes aren't doing it for me at the moment. When I went to the big MAC store on the Champs Elysées the other week, it's safe to say I went a little bit crazy; although, I'm calling my purchases 'investments'. I had a list as long as my arm of all of the blushes I wanted to try because, for me, MAC always have such beautiful colours. In the end I went for Dollymix because it's quite unlike anything I've ever owned. I always go for peaches and corals, but this is a bright, blue toned pink with silver shimmer.

The Packaging

This comes in MAC's typical round, black packaging. I've always liked MAC's packaging as, even though it's simple, I think it's really sophisticated looking. I always appreciate the clear lid, so you can see which colour you're using without opening it up.

The Product

This is a Sheertone blush, which means it isn't super pigmented, but instead it leaves a natural wash of colour over the cheeks. Being such a bright colour, I'm glad that it's sheer, because it would be very difficult to work with otherwise. I find this very easy to blend, and it's buildable to quite a strong colour. I really love this colour, it's pink enough to look like I have natural rosy cheeks, and the shimmer gives the illusion of cheekbones. The only problem I have with this is the wear time: this starts to fade around the three hour mark. I've never bought a blush from MAC before, but I was surprised at this because their eyeshadows, foundations and lipsticks normally last all day on me.

The Verdict

I absolutely love the colour, but I don't know if I would repurchase this because of lack of durability. I don't really expect drawbacks like that from reputable brands and I like my products to last. I'd recommend this if you're only popping out for a couple of hours, but this isn't going to keep you looking flushed all day long. I'd be interested in trying some of the other formulations of blushes from MAC, however, because they might not have the same problem.

  1. I have Dollymix in my MAC blush collection and i think it is sooo pretty. It is more intense compared to some of the other shades i have but i think it is a very shade for the spring / summer time :D I Have also have a cream blush in 'Ladyblush' and i think the cream formulations have great staying power, especially if set with a powdered blush on top :)
