Clinique Chubby Sticks Review and Swatches

One of the gifts I was lucky enough to receive from my boyfriend for Christmas was two of the Clinique Chubby Stick shadow tints for eyes. I'd had my eye on products like this for a while, and I was particularly interested in their potential for quick and easy application; perfect for 8 am starts! I got the shades Ample Amber, a shimmering copper gold colour and Whopping Willow, an olive green with golden shimmer.

The Packaging

Clinique aren't known for their flashy packaging, but are more inclined to create clean, sophisticated and functional looking products. I really like how well the colour on the outside matches the actual shade of the pencil, and how you can wind up the pencil using the metal bit at the end. They aren't too heavy, or big, so are very easy to hold and to use.

Swatches

The Product

I'd say these are cream to powder finish eyeshadows. Upon application, they are very creamy, so they don't pull on the lid and they blend like a dream. After a couple of minutes, the colour sets, and if you were to run your fingertip over your eyelid, you would just feel skin, not a tacky, sticky residue. I haven't found very much creasing with this product. The gold pencil doesn't crease at all, but I find that the green one does after about 5 hours of wear. I think this may be because I tend to apply more of this one, as I don't think it looks as nice as a sheer wash of colour as the gold one. I also haven't noticed much fading of the colour over the day, if there was, it's very minor. Both of the shades I have are shimmery, which I love, I much prefer shimmery eyeshadows to matte ones; but I don't know if the other shades are the same.

The Verdict

Love love love. These are great. They are so quick and easy to apply, because you don't have to faff around with brushes, and they also look really pretty. You literally just draw a little bit on the lid, and blend out the edges with your fingers. I even like wearing these together, with Ample Amber on the lid and Whopping Willow in the crease. It's easy to put any type of eyeliner on top, because they dry so quickly too. At £17, I admit that these aren't cheap. I've never tried another product like this, so I can't compare. I will say, though, I am a firm believer in paying a bit more for a product that actually works, and that you're going to enjoy using. I would definitely get some more of these, I like the look of Portly Plum!
