Dior Mystic Metallics Bonne Étoile Palette: Review

On Saturday, I picked up a palette which I have been eyeing up for ages. It is the Bonne Étoile Palette from Dior's Mystic Metallics Autumn 2013 collection. This is one of two palettes from the collection, the other housing purples and slivers. This is definitely the earthier of the two, with greens and browns. I originally wanted the Constellation palette, but I have a lot of very similar colours, so I decided to get Bonne Étoile instead. You can find the palette here

The Packaging

This comes in Dior's signature navy blue packaging with a beautiful silver, embossed Dior logo and a holographic CD underneath. I love the look of this, it is very classic and luxurious looking, however, the glossy finish of the plastic mean that my fingerprints are quite visible after I've touched it. You also get a little navy blue velvet pouch to keep the palette inside, which also has has CD embossed on it. The velvet pouch is a little pretentious and unnecessary, but it adds a bit more luxury to the product. When you open the palette, you are greeted by a lovely, big mirror, which is big enough to see all of my face minus my head and my chin. Fantastic.

The Product

Inside are 5 very autumnal, shimmery eyeshadows. One khaki green, one silvery beige, one sage green, one dark green and a golden brown. The pigmentation is very good for all colours, apart from the middle shade, which is very, very slightly less than the others. The middle shade also feels slightly more gritty than the others, which are all buttery soft (especially the sage green). I found the application of these to be very easy, they adhere to the skin well and they blend very nicely. One complaint is the dreaded applicator sponges. Why? Why are they in this palette? Dior are a reputable and luxe brand, so why not give me a half decent brush....or just more eye shadow?

Some Looks

The first is a more smoky look, suitable for the evening. I take shade 5 and apply it all over the lid, next I put shade 1 in the crease and shade 4 on the outer corner and blend. Next I use shade two to highlight my tear ducts. Finally, I use shade 3 to line the upper and lower lash lines.

The second look is much more suited to the daytime. I use shade 2 all over the lid, shade 5 in the crease and shade 4 as a liner.

The Verdict

A very pretty, and good quality palette. As with most high end make up, you are paying for the full experience. I could dribble over the gorgeous packaging all day, while turning it so the holographic CD catches the light. The embossed stars on the eyeshadows are absolutely beautiful, and make this palette even more of a joy to use. Only the middle, brown colour let me down slightly, but it's still good....just not up to the standard I expect from such an expensive product.

  5. That's so gorgeous. I'm so disappointed as I just spent a load of money on a Chanel eyeshadow quad and they disappoint me so much. So wish I got a Dior palette instead as I keep seeing more and more how great these are. They are SOO pigmented! Gorgeous look hun.
